The loss was doubly tough for Zvonareva, who was straight-setted by Serena Williams in the singles final earlier in the day.

This was King's 11th career WTA doubles title and the second for Shvedova, though it was their first as a tandem.

The Russian duo of Vesnina and Zvonareva, playing their first event together since 2008, ousted the top-seeded and defending champion Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, in the quarterfinals. They have still yet to win a WTA doubles title together.
